Mombasa Principle Magistrate dies at Karen Hospital

Mombasa Principle Magistrate Elvis Michieka died on Wednesday.

Confirming the news, Chief Justice David Maraga stated that Honourable Michieka was admitted at the Karen Hospital prior to his death.

"Hon. Michieka died this morning at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi where he had been undergoing treatment over the last two weeks.

"He was a devoted judicial officer who rendered his services to the people of Kenya with exceptional diligence and dedication. Just last month he was interviewed for promotion and had been awaiting the results of the exercise," CJ Maraga stated in his condolence message.

Governor Kibwana moves to the Supreme Court

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has moved to the Supreme Court seeking an advisory opinion on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional amendment Bill.

He is seeking to understand whether national and county governments or state officers - acting in official capacity - are allowed by law to use public resources to finance or seek constitutional amendments.

CJ Maraga, who is President of the Supreme Court, is yet to offer a response on the Governor's application.
