DP Ruto's surprising message to NASA supporters

He was speaking at the Jamhuri Day celebrations

Deputy President William Ruto made a surprising announcement during his speech at the 54th Jamhuri Day Celebrations being observed at the Kasarani Stadium.

As he was making his speech Ruto congratulated those who voted for President Uhuru Kenyatta, stating, "The people who voted for Uhuru made history; Uhuru is the only President who has won 3 elections in under 5 years."

Perhaps more surprising was his offer of congratulations to opposition supporters.

He stated, "We celebrate those who voted for our worthy competitors in NASA. They too made our politics competitive and gave us the opportunity to demonstrate that we are truly a progressive state. And we tested all the institutions of our democracy. To them too, we say congratulatons."

Recent demands by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party that it will accept nothing short of the Deputy President (if not the top seat) only complicate what is already proving to be a difficult decision for a president whose former deputy has made it his personal mission to make him a serve one term.

The deputy president went on to add that the journey ahead of us must include every Kenyan despite how we voted; it must involve those in government and those in opposition.

"The journey ahead involves all of us. No one should be left behind in nation building. We must work together to better our tomorrow," the deputy president said.
