Gatundu South Mp Moses Kuria has asked Kenyans dealing with charcoal and sand trade to pass by his office and pick machine guns before going to Kitui County.

In a post on his social media account, Kuria said Ngilu asking residents to take the law into their own hands is illegal and unconstitutional and that there are mechanisms that should be followed which fall within the law.

“Whereas Governor Charity Ngilu may have a point on the issue of charcoal trade, asking the locals to take the law into their hands is illegal, unconstitutional and primitive. There must be mechanisms to enforce any national and county laws within the confines of law and order. We need to abide by the law. In the meantime I am asking all charcoal and sand traders to pass by my office and pick up a few machine guns before you travel to Kitui County,” read Kuria’s post.

His sentiments come a few hours after angry youths in Mwingi set ablaze a Probox that was transporting charcoal allegedly over Ngilu’s earlier remarks calling for crackdown on anyone found ferrying charcoal from Kitui County.
