Why Raila visit to his former university has elicited heated debate

The university was founded in 1993

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday evening sparked a heated debate after posting photos of his visit to his former university in Germany.

Odinga revealed that he had visited Otto Von Guericke University Magdeburg during his week-long trip to the European nation and was fortunate enough to meet one of his former lecturers from the Mechanical Engineering lab.

“I visited my Alma Mater the Otto Von Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany following an invitation from my former colleagues who presented me with a book on the history of the school which features former students who took up Public Service jobs. I also met my former supervisor Prof. Adolf Neubaue at the Mechanical Engineering lab,” the former Prime Minister said a statement.

However, curious Kenyans were confounded when they Google searched the institution and found that it was established in 1993.

Some of the users went ahead to question Odinga’s academic credentials on the basis of the newly found information.

Pulselive.co.ke, however, established that the Otto Von Guericke University Magdeburg was founded after the merger of three schools, including Technical University Magdeburg, where Odinga studied Mechanical engineering.
