National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi was on Tuesday morning caught up in a bitter exchange with city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi which was marked by personal insults.

Trouble started after Ahmednasir criticized Muturi’s comments on the process of implementing the BBI.

The National Assembly Speaker said the BBI Report could not be presented to Parliament in the current state and needed to be framed into a legislative bill after which it would either be implemented as a constitutional amendment bill either through Parliament or through a referendum.

Ahmednasir immediately dismissed Muturi’s understanding and interpretation of the law.

If Speaker Muturi was an AVERAGE lawyer I would have taken his READING of the Constitution very Seriously...fortunately no one has EVER taken the FOOLISH risk of relying on his interpretation of the law...,” the lawyer tweeted.

Speaker Muturi, who rarely responds to criticism on Twitter, replied, “stop being personal and be civil”.

The city lawyer responded by accusing Muturi of subverting the constitution in his term as National Assembly speaker.

“I am civil Sir...it is fair to state Sir as I have done that your tenure as Speaker Sir is defined by a TOTAL SUBVERSION of the constitution...that is your RECORD Sir...that is your LEGACY Sir and Mr. Speaker Sir..you can NEVER run away from that...Sir,” the advocate tweeted.

Muturi then challenged Ahmednasir to highlight specific cases where he had subverted the constitution in his six-year term.

Mr. Speaker Sir, I need a year and the help of a dozen researchers to write down all the instances you DELIBERATELY BREACHED the constitution...Twitter can't do justice, Sir,” Ahmednasir hit back.

The National Assembly boss accused the city lawyer of working at the behest of an unknown person.

Please engage them. Don’t be personal. I know you are just a proxy,” Muturi replied.

The comment did not sit down well with Ahmednasir who went all personal against the Speaker – claiming Muturi would have died a drunkard were it not for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to support his bid to become Speaker in 2013.

Proxy to whom? I am from Mandera...self made. NO ONE in power ever made me a favour...Unlike you who would have died DRUNKEN in SIAKAGO...if it wasn't for the KINDNESS of H.E Uhuru. You had zero cent in your account when JUBILEE was elected in 2013...today you are a BILLIONAIRE,” the lawyer tweeted, Muturi did not engage further.

The city lawyer has been a chief critic of Speaker Muturi’s leadership over the past six years. Ahmednasir’s business partner, Abdikadir Mohamed, had faced off with Muturi in the 2013 race for Speakership before President Kenyatta intervened.
