The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua now wants a law to ban Kenyans from using fake Facebook names.

Mr Mutua stated that Parliament should pass the law that will compel Facebook users to register with their official names.

He noted that this ought to be done before the August 8 Election in order to apprehend individuals using the social media platform to propagate violence in the country.

The KFCB boss stated that: “What we are proposing is accountability in the use of social media. Those who misuse such freedom to create panic or spread falsehoods should be held accountable”.

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

Mutua dismissed earlier reports which alleged that the Board was trying to gag the media.

“We should therefore enhance responsibility by ensuring that once a crime is committed using a social media accounts like Facebook or Twitter we are able to know who is responsible.

“If one truly means well then they should use their true identity on social media,” he said.

Mutua urged Members of Parliament to approach the debate with open minds highlighting that: “This debate may seem misplaced now, but the damage caused by irresponsible characters hiding behind anonymity cannot be ignored”.
