President Kenyatta finally speaks on the plight of Bobi Wine

He was asked whether he had raised the Ugandan lawmaker's plight with President Yoweri Museveni.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has for the first time spoken about the plight of Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi better known as Bobi Wine.

In an interview with the BBC, Mr Kenyatta was asked whether he had raised the Ugandan lawmaker's plight with President Yoweri Museveni.

In his response, he said Kenya has no business interfering with another country's affairs but instead called for internal resolution in solving internal problems.

"We are a country that encourages democratic processes but also understand that different countries have different challenges. What Kenya would like to see is where political competition is allowed without intimidation. But where there are differences please let us ensure those differences don’t result in violence," he told BBC's Zainab Badawi.

Firearms

Bobi Wine was arrested on August 13 on suspicion of involvement in the stoning of President Yoweri Museveni's convoy.

He was initially charged before a military court for illegally possessing firearms but this was dropped on August 23, just moments before a civilian court charged him with treason.

The Ugandan High Court then released him and 11 others on cash bail.

His arrest sparked anger not only in Uganda but also the rest of the world, especially since the former pop star said he was beaten while in custody.
