President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday surprised locals in Muranga county after he gave an opportunity to an independent candidate, Senator Kembi Gitura, to address locals at Kiriaini town.

The incumbent was given an opportunity to address the gathering after all Jubilee candidates had spoken.

"You all know I am the biggest defender of Kenyatta's government in the region and that I will not stop. I, therefore, ask you to vote for Uhuru and i to ensure the good work we have been doing goes on," Gitura was quoted by the Star. However, the president's move irked Jubilee leaders in the area, who claimed that no independent candidate had spoken at the ruling coalition's event."Jubilee candidates had planned that no other candidate would speak," one of the jubilee leaders stated.It was the first time the Head of State had given an opportunity to an independent candidate to speak in a Jubilee rally.The senator was trounced by Kiharu MP Irungu Kangata in the Jubilee nominations.
