Blow to Radio Africa Group as EABL suspends all forms of Advertising with them over the Homeboyz Radio saga

EABL withdraws advertising on Radio Africa Group

Radio Africa Group has suffered a major setback in their revenues streams after East African Breweries Limited (EABL) put on hold all forms of advertising with them following the Homeboyz Radio Saga involving Shaffie Weru, DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville.

In a statement, EABL noted that they are pausing all their adverts on Radio Africa Group programmes related with the three presenters.

“Consequently, beginning Friday, 26th March 2021, EABL has paused all forms of advertising on the Radio Africa Group programmes related with these Presenters. As a pre-condition to revert to our advertising partnership, we have asked RAG to conduct due diligence in the selection of presenters and embed robust consequence management plan on those that do not abide to the code of conduct," read part of the statement.

"We have also asked RAG to ensure continues training programme for presenters to be sensitized on gender matters and commit to airing content that will address gender narratives,” reads more of the statement from EABL.

The action by EABL comes at a time the Homeboyz Radio Management had reached on a decision to suspend Shaffie Weru, DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville for a period of 2 weeks.

The suspension is a disciplinary action over their insensitive sentiments (Victim shamming) on Eunice Wangari Wakimbi who was thrown off the 12th floor of Ambank House by her perpetrator, Moses Gatama Njoroge.

During the suspension period, all Homeboyz presenters, producers and their social media team will undergo Mandatory gender awareness sensitization training and training on Ethical reporting and on air discussion of women issues, sexual assault and gender-based violence.
