Today we look at some gospel artistes whose divorce played out in the public eye:

1. Loise Kim

This beautiful gospel sensation was the victim of some hateful rumor that she had tried committing suicide after her husband left her for a white woman in London.

After a marriage of 7 years and two children, her husband decided to walk out of their marriage, but she managed to create something beautiful out of the ashes of her marriage; a booming career and a peace of mind and a foundation under her name.

But before she was able to get to that good place, people were not kind to her.

“I have received a lot of negative comments. Some people went to the extent of saying I had taken drugs to kill myself because my husband left me for a white woman. That is when he was in London for some time.” She told People Daily during a past interview.

2. Eunice Njeri

Taking the record for what is probably the shortest marriage in the world of celebrities, Eunice Njeri split from her husband Izzo Raps a few hours after saying ‘I Do’ at Neema Gospel Church in Texas U.S.A.

In a post on social media, Eunice revealed that after getting to the altar she felt that her heart was elsewhere.

“On the 27th Nov 2016, Isaac and I did go to the altar to get married, but at the end of that day I realised one thing, i couldn't do it my heart was somewhere else. Probably in Africa doing what I do best, am still trying to figure that out. I immediately left for Kenya and have been serving God the best way I know how.” She told fans.

3. Betty Bayo

In 2013, Betty’s ex-hubby Victor Kanyari of the Salvation Healing Ministry was exposed for fleecing 310 Kshs ‘seed’ money from his naïve followers.

A year later thanks to KTN, attention turned on the charming and crafty pastor once again. This is because this time he had once again duped his gullible followers with his Oscar-worthy fake healing miracles and how he trained members of his staff to give fake testimonies.

An expose that pushed Betty into writing “Anything that is unholy... anything... that is ungodly... anything that contradict(s) my faith... anything that mock(s) the God who got me from wilderness’ humble beginning and raised me for His glory... I rather die... than be part of it.” on Facebook.

But despite her public denouncement, she stayed put before leaving her marriage quietly after all the drama had died down; no dramatic posts, no media interviews and no gossip on the grapevine. During an earlier interview with Kameme, Betty said that she was willing to forgive everything if Kanyari repented “I was not married to Kanyari for money. If he will repent and turns to God I will forgive him, but if he doesn’t, I will divorce him.”

But a year later, Betty was pregnant, a pregnancy that not only shocked her fans but blind-sided her ex-husband too.

Gloria Muliro

After marrying hubby Eric Omba Miko in 2009, the gospel singer left her husband in 2015 citing infidelity, violence and her husband’s rapacious appetite for money that showed itself on their wedding night.

Gloria intimate that during their wedding night, her husband waited for her to go to the bathroom before he hurriedly went through their wedding gifts and picked money from the envelopes before speedily stashing the money into his pockets.

But that was not all, Eric mistreated her during their first month of marriage where he asked her to follow a strict set of rules and often accused her of things she didn’t do.

In addition, he was a control freak who not only blew her money but also had a wandering crotch and engaged in many extra-marital liaisons.

Even after warnings from friends, Muliro did not listen but she says God showed her the truth and she left her husband and ran for the hills never looking back. Not even Eric Omba’s very public pleas could convince her to go back, she had tasted a life of peace and would never look back.

Israel Houghton

Gospel singer and worship leader Israel Laughton was placed on an 'indefinite leave' at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood mega-church in Houston Texas. This was after he confessed to cheating on his wife Meleasa Houghton and announcing his divorce.

But representatives of Houghton said that he had not been booted from his five-year position at the church but took a 'personal sabbatical of his choosing' .

However, losing his marriage and his position at the church was not the only battle Israel was facing as he stood to lose his mind over rude comments and attacks by people on social media after he spotted by paparazzi lenses holidaying in Mexico with Adrienne Bailon. Creating speculations that he had cheated on his ex-wife with ‘The Real’ co-host, but Israel squashed the rumours that he had cheated with Adrienne. The two later got married in Paris.
