Blow for NTV after top presenter is poached by rival station

They have lost one of their best.

Douglas broke the news of his departure with a tweet that read “It was such a great journey and experience for me. I had a great time working with you @ntvuganda I give God the glory for all the milestones we achieved together. My Journey at @NTVTheBeat ends here but the career continues. I’ll miss you all.” And NTV replied with “Thank you @DouglasLwangaUg for the great memories you gave us, and we wish you the best in your next journey.”

Douglas has joined NBS as one of the hosts of ‘Katchup’ a brand new show alongside the gorgeous Anita Fabiola and Mc Isaac. It’s interesting to note that Anita Fabiola also joined NBS from NTV alongside other media personalities like Charles Odongtho, MC Kats and award-winning Health Reporter Irene Namyalo.

A  trend that has seen NBS heavily criticized for ‘stealing ‘ presenters from NTV and the situation was witnessed once again with the debut of Douglas on NBS.

“It requires rocket science to understand why NBS TV continues to 'poach' NTV staff. Those poached become a shadow of themselves while there. For example, very few people watch NBS news despite the poaching but The Morning Breeze which has their homegrown has the highest rating. Also, they are a class apart in live coverage. Wouldn’t that be the niche to the top? Again this is my opinion and it's not free of error.” Joe Elunya Snr opined with James Kutosi chiming in with “One thing I have known and learnt about viewership is originality of content. Individuals will never be better than institutions. Goodwill in business is built of over time. What NTV did to WBS cannot be done by NBS to NTV. Let NBS maintain its style and do what NTV did to the former teen’s presenter Tumusiime. I am not against Lwanga moving but it is important not to import all the time finished products. Homegrown is better.”

Others like David Wabukye expressed their worry about the future of NBS with “I am personally very worried about the future of NBS TV reason being its current state of booming is directly supported by the efforts of NTV which is dangerous.

Like James, Kutosi said homegrown is better, easy to manage and have a sense of brand ownership and belonging. I am anticipating a huge staff move from NBS TV to yet another new, bigger and better TV soon or later since most of these staff shifting has been based on better pay, better working conditions in name of ‘better offer’ Remember better offers never stop but grooming ur own basically reduces ‘Better offer’ standard of work.”
