Dizzy spells refer to brief periods of time where you feel light-headed, nauseous, like the world is spinning and as though youre about to fall.

They can be caused by various unique instances like exhaustion or various medications but there could be underlying conditions for frequent dizzy spells.

1. Anxiety

Stress can manifest in many ways. One of the ways is through dizzy spells. Feeling anxious over a loss of control of events in your life can lea to feelings of lightheadedness, nausea and can even cause a brief loss of consciousness.

2. Blood pressure fluctuations

If your blood pressure suddenly drops, you're likely to feel dizzy. For instance if you were sitting down then suddenly stand. Room spin will develop.

3. Low blood sugar and diabetes

Recurring episodes of low blood sugar will cause episodes of dizziness. Low blood sugar in diabetics or non-diabetics who don't eat well can lead to metabolic complications such as chronic pancreatitis.

4. Dehydration

Hot weather, diarrhoea, vomiting, not taking enough water can lead to feelings of weakness.

5. Anaemia

This is a condition caused by iron deficiency where haemoglobin levels in the blood are low. Haemoglobin are blood components that transport oxygen to tissue in the body.

Other causes include vertigo, ear infections, poor blood circulation, alcohol and drug abuse, migraines and neurological conditions.
