If you though your toilet seat was the dirtiest place in your house then you need to think twice.

There are a couple of everyday items that you use that are dirtier than your toilet seat. They are:

1.Chopping board

According to a research conducted at the University of Arizona, a chopping board has 200 times more fecal bacteria than a toilet seat – the one found in feces.

The bacteria can be found in raw meat as it originates from the intestines of animals.

2.Your phone

This may not come as much of a surprise seeing that the phone is probably the only thing that people do not clean after use. A 2013 British study found that the phone had 140 units of staphylococcus, a bacterium that cause severe stomach aches. A toilet seat has less than 20 units of the bacteria.

3.Your carpet

The average person sheds off about 1.5 million dead cells every hour. Bacteria feeds on dead cells so it shouldn’t be that hard to put two and two together.

Close to 200,000 types of bacteria live in every square inch of the carpet which is 700 times more than the toilet seat.

Deep clean your carpet to help get rid of the bacteria.

4.Your kitchen sponge

The kitchen sponge has been known to be one of the dirtiest kitchen items. They contain about 134,630 bacteria which is about 456 times more than the toilet seat. They carry E.coli and other fecal bacteria seeing that they are rarely replaced once they get old.

5.Your handbag

Ladies, your handbags are dirtier than your toilet seat. At least according to British researchers that studied 25 handbags and found that the average handbag was three times dirtier than the toilet seat.

Hand and face creams were the dirtiest followed by lipstick and lip gloss.

6.Your TV remote

Your TV remote collects dust when it sits idle, is sat on sometimes and is even touched with people that haven’t washed their hands.
