5 benefits of steaming your face

Start doing it if you don’t

Benefits of steaming the face (Ebony Magazine)

Growing up, I would often see my elder sisters steaming their faces. I didn’t bother to figure out why but I assumed they did it simply for beauty purposes. Well, now that I’m older and wiser, I totally understand why they did that. See, face steaming has been around since time immemorial and it’s a great thing to add into your beauty regimen, especially if you suffer from acne and have problematic skin albeit, even if you have great skin, it’s necessary so as to remove blackheads and such. Plus, it’s pretty easy to do it at home, you don’t even have to go for a professional facial. All you need to do is boil some water, pour it into a bowl then cover your clean face with a towel over the bowl and steam your face for 5-10 minutes then cleanse, tone and moisturize. Here are reasons why you should steam your face.

1. Steam loosens blackheads and whiteheads.

Ever seen people with super tiny black or white dots on their face? Especially around the nose? Yeah, that’s what I mean by white and blackheads. What steaming the face does is that it helps soften your skin and loosen the pores and this will subsequently help push out the blackheads or make removing them way easier.

2. It’s going to push out dirt.

There’s a lot of dirt stuck on your skin normally from the dust, excess oils, remains of makeup, etc. Usually, sweat is the best thing to bring all that rubbish to the surface of the skin. Kind of like cleansing your pores…this could help restore your skin if you constantly have pimples, zits and acne, as that dirt stuck in the pores could be the reason for your skin breakouts.

3. Your skin benefits from the other products you’re using.

Steaming your face is not only beneficial for removing blackheads and opening up your pores giving you clear smooth skin, but it also allows your face to benefit from the products you’re using.

4. It hydrates dry skin.

Steaming can increase the permeability of the skin, meaning it allows your skin to take in products better. So, if you have dry skin, after steaming, once you apply your hydrating lotions and serums, your skin is going to hold on to them more and this is great for dry skin because it will help your skin retain that moisture as well as remove those dead dry skin cells that make your face look dry and make your skin look soft and supple.

5. Sheds dead skin.

Steaming gives your skin the power to harness its anti-aging properties by shedding dead skin which makes you look old and tired.
