With the weather so unpredictable right now, chances of getting a common cold or a flu are quite inevitable.

Luckily you don’t have to go through the torturous aching body, stuffed nose or sore throat with this cool recipe.

While it helps with digestion after a heavy meal lemon and ginger tea is also known to battle and win over the worst kind of cold.

Each of these ingredients boast amazing health benefits for your body. More so, the heat and the ginger will warm you right up, the steam aided by the bright lemon and the potent ginger will help clear your sinuses, and the ginger and the honey will work to sooth that scratchy throat.

Here’s the best part, a shot of whiskey added to your drink will make good for a warm cup of toddy to aid your distress.

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Grate the ginger into a large measuring cup. (Dicing it will not give the same kind of kick)
  2. Pour 1 cup boiling water over the ginger and let it steep for 3 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, put the lemon juice and the honey in a large mug. Strain the ginger tea into the mug.
  4. Stir to dissolve the honey, taste, and add more honey or lemon juice if you like.

Want to mix it up? A few variations:

  1. Add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg or cardamom at the end for a warm spice flavor.
  2. Or, use a cinnamon stick to do the stirring to dissolve the honey
  3. Warm spices add more than flavor, they add a sense of comfort and some magical herbal/homeopathic elements, too.
  4. A bit of turmeric (1/4 teaspoon will do it) feels insanely curative and tastes great, and it turns the tea a brilliant yellow, but know that it also stains anything it touches—consider yourself warned.
  5. If you like things spicy, add a dash of cayenne—that spicy note will further help clear out those sinuses.
  6. If the lemon flavor is too much for you, balance it out with a splash of orange juice.
