Sonko now has only 12 hours to clear a Sh18 Billion debt owed to them by the Nairobi City County in unpaid salaries.
The workers, through their union leader Benson Olunga, have indicated that they would not report to work after Wednesday midnight unless they receive all their dues in total.
On Tuesday, the flamboyant Governor threatened all employees who would participate in the strike which termed as illegal.
“Please take note that Nairobi City has more than a million jobless but qualified people who are ready to take your positions as soon as you down your tools,” the City boss stated in a press statement.
However, the move has been criticised by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli who indicated that he would move to court to have the worker's reinstated in the event Sonko made good his threat.
"When we go to court, we will get an order to reinstate those workers. What will he do? He should impress upon dialogue," Atwoli advised.
The Nairobi Governor has pleaded for more time to resolve the problem of delayed problem, adding that he had forfeited Sh25 Million meant for his inauguration and directed it to go towards payment of worker's salaries.
