DCI has written to Sonko asking him to help summon three Members of the Nairobi County Assembly who have been associated with the illegal group.
The three MCAs are Ruth Ndumi, a Jubilee Party nominated MCA, Patricia Mutheu of Mlango Kubwa and Anthony Kiragu Karanja of Waithaka Ward.
The letter read in part: “This office is conducting an investigation into the alleged existence of a militia by the name of Sonko Defence Force.”
It further stated: “To this end, this office would like to request your good office’s assistance in summoning the undermentioned honourable members so that they may shed light on what they know about the alleged militia.”
Sonko defends MCAs
Sonko has, however, refuted claims of the existence of such a militia, calling the inquiries an attempt to divert the attention of the people of Nairobi from important county matters.
“This kind of stupidity must stop. Maybe he’s confusing the thousands of youths in Nairobi who campaigned for Jubilee Party in the last two elections with the alleged militiamen,” the governor wrote on Facebook.
The governor pointed out he has tried to help through rehabilitation the youth adding that some have since transformed and work with his government.
According to Mr Sonko, the said youth have been deployed in Nairobi’s beautification programme and to unclog the city’s drainage system, thereby earning a decent living.
