Mombasa Gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has sensationally claimed that he made a Sh1 million bet with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on who the National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential Candidate would be.
Shahbal alleged that he told Kalonzo that ODM party leader Raila Odinga would never step down for him as per the controversial 2013 Memorandum of Understanding the two had signed just before the polls.
According to the MoU Kalonzo was supposed to be the Oppositionâs flag bearer in the 2017 General Election.
However, on Thursday NASA announced that the former Prime Minister would be facing off President Uhuru Kenyatta while Kalonzo would be his running mate.
Speaking to a local daily, Shahbal noted that he was yet to collect his money from the Wiper leader since he had won the bet.
âI am calling him to collect my money. I told him there is no way that Raila would give him the certificate,â Shahbal was quoted.
Shahbal made the bet while he was still in Kalonzoâs party but the politician has since defected to Jubilee.
The businessman opined that Mr. Odinga ought to have handed the position to Kalonzo since history had proven that he could never defeat President Kenyatta.
âIf Raila played the role of the kingmaker, maybe it could have been an exciting election, but now it is the same monkeys in the same forest.
âThe Kamba community in Mombasa is extremely unhappy, because he is going to put them in the cold for another five years,â he added.
