This after the Opposition leaders threatened to boycott elections if the presidential results are not announced at the constituent level.Speaking on Wednesday in Nairobi during the burial of prominent Nanyuki businessman Solomon Wachira, Kiunjuri told the Opposition leaders they can skip the General Election at their own peril.
“The only thing that can stop elections is a legal process. If the Supreme Court rules that we cannot do the election, then we shall abide by that ruling but not mere intimidation,” Mr Kiunjuri stated.Led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, NASA said that a court ruling allowing presidential results to be announced at the constituency level should not be overturned after IEBC made an appeal against the decision.
"In which interest is this appeal made? That's mischief and we will not participate in the elections of 2017," Orengo said.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has also disputed the ruling stating that it could lead to chaos. "I was dismayed by that ruling for the simple reason that presidential results are supposed to be announced at the national tallying center by the national returning officer, who is the chairman of the IEBC. That is very clear in the law," Mr Chebukati affirmed.
