Speaking during an interview with a local daily, Mr. Igathe divulged that he had several talks with the flamboyant Senator before nodding to the offer.

According to Igathe, he specifically implored Sonko to take the agenda of Nairobi to a good place before he could accept to join him in the Capital’s gubernatorial race.

“Sonko has been my friend for long, we have been in talks, and I asked him to drive the agenda to a certain place and I will join him,” he mentioned.

The businessman indicated that it was imperative for him to delve into politics since “it is too important to be left to politicians”.

The ex Vivo boss disclosed that he needed more to his life since he had already reached his peak at the Energy company.

“I have gotten to the top in the corporate world. What else was there for me to do? I was just twiddling thumbs and swiveling on a chair, let me now go serve my country; I have always believed you learn, which I have learnt… you earn which I have earned, then you serve. Serving is a calling, I have come here as a shepherd,” Igathe was quoted by Capital FM News.

He added that he was ready to work for the people of Nairobi to ensure that the City is transformed.

He highlighted that when the campaign officially begins on May 28th the duo will disclose to the residents of Nairobi their manifesto.

Earlier reports indicated that President Uhuru Kenyatta had a hand in the selection of Igathe as Sonko’s running mate.

Mr. Kenyatta is said to have called Sonko after he won the Jubilee ticket and assured to give him support.

The Head of State also decided to find him a sober-minded person who could help him run the capital.
