Monday was not the best of days for Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero after a magistrate has dismissed his application on graft charges brought against him.
Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti said the charges against Dr Kidero met the threshold required by law.
According to Ogoti, Kidero did not bring forth any evidence to convince him not to interfere with the charges the former county boss is facing.
“The upshot of the matter then is that having observed, this court finds that all the charges as preferred meet the threshold of the law in criminal pleadings, procedure and practice,” Ogoti stated.
Failed attempt
Dr Kidero had sought to be tried separately arguing that the charges were lumped together with an aim of embarrassing him.
The former County boss is facing charges of conspiracy to commit corruption arguing that they were faulty.
The court dismissed an application by directors of companies alleged to have fraudulently received payments from City Hall.
Troubled charges
Together with members of his administration, Dr Kidero was charged with conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption leading to the loss of Sh213 million.
In his defense, Dr Kidero told the court that the charges as framed relate to an offense that does not exist in law.
Other charges include abuse of office and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
