Speaking to Citizen TV, Waiguru said that she was out of the country at the time, and the meeting was called on short notice.
She went on to say that she could not get a flight back, but she was updated on everything that was discussed in the meeting.
“I was out of the country and it was called on short notice. I think Wednesday night and I could not get a flight where I was. I was following step by step,” she said.
Waiguru further downplayed claims that Team Embrace and Inua Mama were female groups being used as ‘puppeteers’ for the 2022 presidential race.
Sagana meeting
The Kirinyaga Governor’s words came after President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday last week hosted leaders from the Mt Kenya region at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County, where he discussed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Sources privy to discussions in the closed door meeting where phones were not allowed in revealed that the President gave express orders that the leaders should support BBI.
The president assured his guests that he was aware of what he was doing and that they should trust his judgement.
A second issue he addressed was the politicking that had split the government into informal 'kieleweke' and 'tanga tanga' groups.
He urged the politicians from his backyard to stop politics and focus on their delivery to the people they serve, assuring them that he would do the same.
