Petition to oust Majority Leader

26 Kisumu County MCAs have signed a petition to oust Majority Leader Ken Onyango and Chief Whip Gard Olima.

This comes as the County Assembly's leadership row escalates.

On Tuesday this week, a fist fight broke out in the Kisumu County Assembly over the swearing in of the new budget committee chairperson.

Unending wars

The County Assembly was turned into a boxing ring as the MCAs traded blows and one Ward Rep is was stopped by security officers as he attempted to run away with the mace.

Chaos erupted after the Mr Onyango questioned the process that led to the removal of the former committee chairperson, Kolwa East MCA Stephen Owiti.

House Speaker Onyango Oloo was accused by the Ward Reps of dictating operations at the Assembly.

The majority leader said the appointment of Judith Ogaga as the new budget committee chairperson, was not in accordance with the law and they wanted it nullified.

Money battles

He further stated that the move to impose Ogaga on them was aimed at serving particular interests which were contrary to will of ODM party members.

The unending wars at the Kisumu County Assembly were blamed on allowances and supremacy battles.

Last year, the Standard Newspaper reported that MCAs at the Assembly can do anything, including jeopardizing service delivery and embarrassing themselves by fighting in public, just to pocket allowances, at times illegally.
