Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang Nyong’o has been fined Sh400, 000 by the High Court after he failed to show up in Court.

Judge Thrispisa Cherere fined Nyong’o together with his sister Nyagoy Nyong’o for contempt of court, after they failed to appear for a ruling in an estate inheritance dispute with his nephews.

The High Court Judge ordered the two to pay the amounts within 30 days or face a one month jail term.

The Kisumu Governor and his sister were expected in court for sentencing on Wednesday but they did not show up.

Nyong’o and Nyagoy were found guilty of disobeying court orders that had directed them to include their nephews on the inheritance list for the property left behind by their father Hesbone Shimei Nyong’o.

Loses mother

This comes a few days after the Kisumu Governor lost his mother, Mama Dorcas Owino Nyong'o.

According to Kisumu County spokesperson Alloice Ager, Mama Dorcas died at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

Mama Dorcas was reportedly admitted at the facility a few days before she died and was undergoing treatment. She passed at the age of 98.
