KU Students Stage Demonstrations

Students at Kenyatta University staged protests at the Thika Super Highway on Monday.

The students protested against the university's administration and called for the sacking of the Vice-Chancellor Paul Wainaina over what they termed as mismanagement at the institution.

Reports have intimated that the protests were sparked by the arrest of the Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA) Chairman Joshua Ayika.

In their list of demands, the students asked for the fees deadline to be extended to the last two weeks before they sit for their end of semester examinations.

List of demands

The students also asked for the school to recall all student leaders and learners who have been suspended on minor crimes.

KU students asked the institution to do away with the supplementary fees and reinstate back all casual workers who were sacked.

Lastly, the students demanded to have their graduation fee returned to the initial price which was Ksh3500.

Police engaged the students in running battles along Thika Super Highway and fired teargas to disperse the learners.
