35 arrested, 7 guns recovered in Kapedo security operation

CS Matiang'i imposed a dusk to dawn curfew as the security operation commenced

Police Spokesperson Charles Owino

35 suspects have been arrested in connection with the Kapedo and Arabal bandit attacks that have seen a number of innocent people lose lives.

According to Police Spokesman Charles Owino, the security operation has also led to the recovery of 7 guns.

Mr Owino insisted that security agencies will not be leaving the Kapedo area until normalcy is restored.

He also pointed out that it was unfortunate the pastoralists they have ben working to protect, have turned against the police.

For many years we have protected pastoralists from aggression. We have recruited reservists to support police in case of impromptu attacks. It is unfortunate that some of these pastoralists have turned against police with influential people financing criminals who are cattle rustlers. The senior GSU officer was killed after coming from a peace mission. We have asked locals to surrender voluntarily illegally owned arms. They will not be prosecuted,” he said.

This comes barely a week after Government officially launched a security operation to weed out bandits who have been causing unrest in the region.
