All government Chemists have been asked to quarantine the three injection drugs - Gentamed, Caregenta-80 and Dawagenta - which are used to prevent or treat bacterial infections such as meningitis or pneumonia.
In a warning alert by the board, the Gentamycin drugs were found to cause severe headaches to patients after injection, prompting the withdrawal.

The three drugs are manufactured by China’s Cspc Ouyi Pharmaceutical Company, Shandong Shenglu and Shandong Xier Kantai respectively.
Already the board in a statement has asked pharmacies to provide it with details of the quantities of Gentamycin drugs in their facilities as well as those of their supplier or distributor.
Fake morning-after pills
In May, the Kenya Anti-counterfeit Agency confiscated about 31,000 pieces of fake “morning-after” pills estimated to be worth Sh7 million.
The consignment of the fake emergency contraceptive, commonly known as P2, was discovered together with other counterfeit materials including 51 designer purses and 4,000 electronics worth up to Sh25 million at the Embakasi Inland Container Depot, Nairobi.
“Some of the confiscated products included 31,000 pairs of fake P2 contraceptives that would have posed a great danger to the health and lives of thousands of Kenyans,” said Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohamed.
