Man sets himself, wife and 4 Children ablaze in family row

We heard the children loudly crying and assumed it was a normal beatings they normally receive - a neighbour.

A family man, wife and four children have been burnt to death in Toll Village of Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County.

The area police who confirmed the incident has said that the late husband might have set the house ablaze over row on family cash. He however cautioned of speculations.

The couple, identified as Mr Kitaka and his wife Mrs Christine Nekesa died alongside the four children in a Monday night blaze.

"We managed to break the door but it was too late. We found the mother's body on the floor. The children were under the bed and the man's body was in a separate room," said neighbour Jospa Nandasaba.

She added that they heard the children screaming at about 11pm.

"This man and woman have been fighting regularly. When we arrived, the house was covered in smoke and the doors and windows had been locked,” she said.

She said one of the children succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital.

Confirming the incident, area chief Mildred Chesoli asserted that she had in several occasions helped the couple solve small family squabbles.

"I even told them to seek legal advice."

The bodies were taken to Kitale hospital mortuary.
