Lecturers on Wednesday kicked off their third strike this year in hopes to force the government to honour a pay increase that had been awarded earlier this year.
University students have now joined in support of their lecturers.
Speaking on Saturday, the students vowed to go on a hunger strike on Wednesday if the lecturers’ demands were not met by the government.
The students are worried about their graduation schedules being upset and are hoping the government treats the issue with the urgency it deserves.
Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) Secretary General Constantine Wasonga on Wednesday said the government must release Sh5.2billion to cater for the increase.
