On September 2, 2017 Kenyans woke up to the sad news that Moi Girls high school in Nairobi was on fire.

8 student perished in the night fire with others rushed to the hospital where they have been receiving treatment.

Among them is a girl who saved her school mates during the fire tragedy who is still fighting for her life in the ICU at Nairobi Women’s Hospital.

The girl identified as Mary Mokaya was woken up by the fumes and started waking up the rest of the girls to rush out of the dormitory.

The 16-year-old who has been praised by fellow students for waking them up ended up with 66 per cent burn.

According to her mother Florence Agoto, her daughter has always been kind to other people.

“She is a merciful and kind child and since the parents of the children she saved are also praying for her” I am hopeful she will be fine,” her mother said.

Mary was badly burnt to the point of not being easy to identified as it took the teacher who brought her to the hospital to identify her with the help of her mother.

The fire that broke out at around 2am burnt down Kabarnet dormitory that housed 338 from one student.
