Kenyans react after ODM MP receives 4-year jail sentence

Kenyans have reacted strongly after Changamwe Member of Parliament Omar Mwinyi was sentenced to four years in prison, for assaulting two police officers.

In the ruling made by Mombasa chief magistrate Evans Makori, the Orange Democratic Party MP was also given the option of paying a Sh1 million fine.

The fine part however did not settle well with most Kenyans some terming it a mockery of the justice system in the country.

Here is how they reacted;

Why are people condemning the sentence given to Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi? Poor people are often forced to pay for basic police services. Yet the same policemen do the bidding of the rich. I applaud Mwinyi for whatever he did.

Can't stop laughing a 1 million fine for "Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi" . Justice has not been served.

So Kenya Judiciary sentence Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi to 4 years imprisonment then Gives him an alternative of paying ksh 1m to avoid serving the 4 years. Well Done Court What a facade. This is total Bullshit.

You can imagine he will pay the fine, show us the middle finger and tell us to go to hell. Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi is a disgrace but our courts are worse!

When I first read the Changamwe Mp Omar Mwinyi sentence, I thought wow...finally justice...then I was hit by the OR 1million fine and I remembered I was in KenyaJokes on us!
