The Kenyan Gospel industry has been growing in leaps and bounds to compete with their secular counterparts. The producing of the audio, shooting of cutting edge videos are some of the major developments that have taken place in the gospel industry.

The videos are high quality unlike the low quality we had to endure in the past. Therefore these are some of the Gospel songs that have rocked our radio and TV stations, online platforms and many other circles.

1. Thitima- Kymo and Stigah

This song rocked after its release in late 2016 by Samawati records. Every music outlet; radio, television, clubs and concerts could not have enough of the song. In fact the two long-time friends Kymo (William Kamore) and Stigah (Moses Kariuki) produced a Christmas version of the song.

The song scooped two Groove Awards this year. It won the Afro pop song of the year and Song of the year awards.

The song was produced by Kymo (William Kamore) who formed the Samawati Band and the famous DJ drop Thitima. Drop is an audio clip that helps identify a DJ.

2. Bazokizo-Bruz Newton and Collo

The dance song was released last year and immediately became a hit. It is a collaboration between Bruz Newton (Newton Kamau) and former Kleptomaniax member Collo (Collins Majale). The song was nominated in three categories at the Groove Awards which are: Song of the year, Afro Pop song of the year and Collabo of the year. However they clinched Collabo of the year Award at the Groove Awards 2017.

The song is particularly unique because of the Bazokizo dance which was choreographed by Bruz Newton

3. Patakatifu Pako-Eric Smith

Patakatifu pako made it to the top 10 list having won the Worship of the year category at Groove Awards 2017.

The song was released in May 2016 and is sang by Burundian born Eric Smith. He has also sang worship hit Wewe ni Zaidi.

4. I live for you- Adawnage

Having won the Video of The year Award at the Groove Awards 2017, Adawnage  went on to bag the group of the year award.

I live for you was directed by Link Global’s JBlessing and has been viewed more than 600,000 times so far.

5. Shule Yako- Mercy Masika

The Groove Award female artist of this year Mercy Masika has been on an upward trajectory especially with this song. According to Safaricom, Shule yako is the most downloaded Skiza gospel song of 2017. That led the former teacher to win a Groove award.

6. General- Hopekid

General is the Groove Award ragga/reggae song of the year 2017/2018. Stephen Wambua aka Hopekid is known for his Jamaican slang known as Patois. He was also once a primary school teacher.

General was produced by the legendary Homeboyz Productions.

7. Vidole- Ecko Dydda

The Groove Award Male artist of the year 2017/2018 Eko Dydda kept the airwaves busy with his new hit song Vidole. The song went on to win the Hip Hop song of the year in this year’s Groove Awards.

It is characterized by a very unique dancing style and Eko Dydda’s signature rap style known as stammer. You definitely want to listen to this one.

8. Kutembea Nawe- Rebekah Dawn

Though the song never bagged any groove award, it has been a nationwide sensation because of its unique production. The song is sang by Rebekah Dawn who is a white lady and sings in fluent Swahili.

Dawn wrote, produced and performs the song which was released in 2015. The Redfourth chorus also did a cover of the song which gave the song a major boost in popularity.

9. Boomaye- Magic Mike ft Kambua

Boomaye was nominated for Afro pop song of the year and Collabo of the year at Groove Awards 2017 held at KICC. It is a collaboration between Magic Mike and Nishikilie hitmaker Kambua. The song was released in 2016 and has been a popular melody among the Kenyan Gospel circles.

10. Pale Pale- Size 8

Size 8 made headlines when she transitioned from the secular industry. She now goes by the name Size 8 reborn. She sang the song Pale pale written by Groove Award songwriter of the year Pitson. The song got nominated for Song of the Year and Video of the Year categories at the Groove Awards 2017.
