Mama Oliech died on Friday after a long battle with cancer

In his condolence message, President Kenyatta disclosed that Mama Oliech who passed on yesterday was "been very good to the Kenyan Nation and we appreciate the achievement of your children on behalf of the country".

Passaris on the the other hand remembered the deceased for nurturing a star footballer and her determination that saw the deceased grow her business into a household name.

"My deepest condolences to Dennis and the entire Oliech Family on the demise of their mother, Mary Auma. Not only did Mama Oliech nurture a star footballer but she also grew her business into a household name through sheer determination. May she rest in peace.RIPMamaOliach" Passaris wrote.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga also condoled with the family in a statement shared on his social media platforms.

Mama Oliech developed breathing difficulties and passed on at her Lavington home on Friday before the family could rush her to hospital.

Oliech’s elder brother Nickson Onywanda confirmed the death of his mother and added that the body had been moved to Umash Funeral Home.

“She fell ill and we were preparing to take her to hospital but she passed away before we could do that,” Onywanda said.

Mama Oliech was diagnosed with cancer five years ago and attended treatment for the same between 2013 and 2016 in Paris where Oliech was based at the time.

Other than being the mother to one of Kenya’s most celebrated sportsmen, she was an accomplished entrepreneur popular for her mouth-watering cuisines served at Mama Oliech’s Restaurant.
