Amateur videos circulating across social media showed General Service Unit officers clobbering students in their halls of residence while others were forced to frog march at gunpoint at the institution.

Already the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations after police allegedly beat up students in the University of Nairobi during the demonstrations.

The students vented their anger towards the university's Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter M.F.Mbithi for allowing police inside the university with some saying during his predecessor's tenure, no police gained entry into the university.

The enraged students chanted "Mbithi Must Go!" as they lit bonfires during the demos.

State House Road and Waiyaki Way was a no-go zone as motorists fearing for their safety stayed away from the roads.

The students have also called on all Kenyan campuses to join them in a countrywide demo to take place on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in what they termed as "The mother of all demos".
