Chebukati said that the Commissioners had a chance to raise any issues with the decision to send home the IEBC Chief Executive but they did not and that their actions demonstrated their inability to lead in difficult times.
“The real reason for their resignation, is the plenary resolution to hold the Commission Secretary to account. The resigning Commissioners had a chance through a crisis meeting held in Naivasha on 13 April, 2018 to air their grievances – which they did not. They would also have introduced a motion to ask the Commission Chair to review the plenary decision. Their action demonstrates lack of capacity to lead in difficult times and accommodate divergent views.” Read the statement signed by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
“The Commission plenary has in eight other instances put various motions to a vote. Even as Chairman I have lost some matters, which motions have nonetheless remained Commission resolutions,” he said.
