Mohammed, who is also ODM director of Elections, is set to appear before a Homabay court today.
Confirming the reports on his twitter account Mr Mohammed said: "I am under arrest at Homa bay police station".
A charge sheet seen by Plive.co.ke indicated that the MP uttered words meant to create animosity among the Kikuyu community July 2 2017 at Tourist hotel in Homa Bay County.
"Yesterday I told Governor Hassan Joho before he comes here (Homabay) to prepare Makaburini Ground sin Mombasa so that we can swear in Raila Odinga as President of the Coastal region, Nyanza, Western and North Eastern. The rest can have Nyeri," the charge sheet read in part.
According to the charges, Mohammed remarks intended to incite feelings of contempt, hatred and discrimination against the people of Nyeri based on their ethnicity.
