The parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday tabled its report on the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal that saw billions of shillings stolen.

Tabling the report in Parliament, PAC chair Nicholas Gumbo stated that the former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary was the force behind the looting at the Service.

The Committee proposed that the former CS, who is eyeing the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat, be barred from vying for a public office if investigations found that she was culpable.

The legislators further noted that Waiguru should be charged and prosecuted.

In its recommendations, PAC highlighted that the Consulting House in the saga owned by political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi should also be investigated.

NYS saga came to light in 2015 and at the time only Sh791 million was reported as having been stolen.

However, after investigations, audit reports indicated that a whopping 1.8 billion was looted in a grand scheme orchestrated by senior Government officials.

Since the scandal was unraveled Waiguru has consistently denied connections to the scam only claiming that she was a whistle blower being judged unfairly.
