New twist after Citizen Journalist was beaten at a NASA event

Francis Gachuri was beaten up while covering Odinga's big announcement.

Tobiko on Wednesday directed Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett to launch investigations in to the incident where Gachuri was physically assaulted together with a camera woman from NTV.

Tobiko directed Boinett to quickly conclude investigations into the matter and ensure that the suspects are arraigned in court.

The development came even as Gachuri had announced he had unconditionally forgiven the goons who manhandled him.

The Citizen TV reporter also clarified that ODM’s Director of Communications Philip Etale had helped rescue him from the mob, contrary to social media reports that the attack was orchestrated by the official.

NASA leader Raila Odinga has also apologised for the matter and promised that action would be taken against the perpetrators.

“I have apologized to Gachuri who was molested by some rowdy youth who were not invited to the meeting. I have spoken to Wachira Waruru (Royal Media Services CEO) and apologised to him,” Odinga stated on Tuesday.
