Majority Whip Ben Washiali confirmed that the meeting indeed happened but declined to divulge much details.
“We met at the DP's place on Thursday evening and it is not the first time we were meeting there. We do that regularly. But I cannot give you the details of what transpired during the meeting because that is the preserve of the DP's communications team,” Washiali said.
Multiple sources who spoke to Nation in confidence revealed that the meeting which began shortly after 2 pm lasted more than 8 hours into the night when the DP excused himself to go and receive President Uhuru Kenyatta who was jetting back from DRC.

Discussions centered on the political implications of the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to assign Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i a powerful role, elevating him to the level of a “chief minister” and taking over some of DP Ruto’s roles.
The team, carefully selected from DP Ruto’s inner circle deliberated on how to counter Matiangi’s appointment and assure his political support base in Rift Valley that all is well amidst concern by some that the appointment had effectively rendered the DP jobless.

In attendance were House Majority Leaders Aden Duale (National Assembly) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Senate), Majority Whip Ben Washiali, Deputy Senate Speaker Kithure Kindiki and Nandi Governor Stephen Sang .

Reports indicate that during the meeting, the DP prevailed upon the legislators not to engage in confrontational politics.

He urged them to stick to the development narrative, pledging to continue visiting different parts of the country.
According to some insiders, the timing of the meeting was conveniently selected when the president was out of the country in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
