"I was on holiday and I thank God I am able to pay for it" Joho explains long absence

I paid for my holiday

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has finally spoken about his long absence from the country and his county, something that recently formed a heated topic of discussion.

Joho was out of the country for almost one month and a section of the public complained that he had left Mombasa in a deplorable condition. The flashy Governor posted photos and instastories as he traversed Europe.

On Wednesday, however, speaking during an interview on KTN at the Devolution Conference in Kakamega, Mr. Joho explained that he was on vacation. He noted that he had left the county in the able hands of his team.

The Governor further divulged that he first traveled for official business then proceeded for a holiday which he claimed he paid from his own personal account.

"I was not missing but away for other matters. During this time, I had a functioning government ... I have competent teams. We have structures that work [whether you're there or not].

"If anything, we are allowed to take holidays at times. We are not only politicians but also humans who are allowed to take holidays ones in a while. And I thank God that I am blessed enough to pay for my travels,” he said.

The Governor added: "I had been travelling way before I became a politician."

Mr. Joho came back to the scene last week Thursday during the wedding of Tanzania Bongo musician and his friend Ali Kiba.
