Ruto who was addressing the public at a rally in Vihiga on Sunday urged those rooting for constitutional amendment through a referendum to learn from Ekuru Aukot’s Pungumza Mzigo initiative.
“Those who want the constitution must now understand and must read from what happened to the Punguza Mzigo (bill) that it is no longer possible to use shortcuts and use means that avoid ordinary citizens to be able to change the constitution. It is not possible!” Ruto stated.
He maintained that just like the bill, any initiative that fails to take into consideration the views of Kenyans will fail terribly just like the Punguza Mzigo initiative.
“People sitting in offices, in boardrooms and in big hotels who think that they can change the constitution to the exclusion of thr ordinary people in Kenya must learn from the Punguza Mzigo initiative that it is no longer possible in the Kenya of the 21 st century.
“Kenyans are awake and I will make sure that their voice is heard. No shortcuts, no roundabouts, no corners, no mpango ya kando.Haiwezekani!” Ruto said.
Below is part of DP Ruto's speech in which he vowed make sure that voice of ordinary citizens is heard.
