A week after Baringo Senator received a warm reception in Western Kenya and hinted at an alliance with politicians from the region, Deputy president William Ruto has swung into action.
The DP will pitch tent in Western on Sunday in what analyst opine is a move in response to Gideon Moi’s charm offensive.
He will be accompanied by a host of MPs including National Assembly Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali
Washiali onfirmed the purpose of the visit, stating that “I can confirm that indeed the DP will attend the church function as earlier planned, a host of MPs including myself have also been invited and will be accompanying Mr Ruto” .
“He is coming to ask locals to support his 2022 presidential bid and stand with the church at the same time.” He added.
He however disputed the narrative that the DP’s visit is informed by Moi’s last week visit that caused jitters in DP Ruto’s camp.
“It is not true that Ruto is coming to undo what Kanu chairman and Baringo senator Gideon Moi did last week during his two-day tour of the region, the DP is not competing with in any one in initiating development projects,” he clarified.
According to him,the visit was planned much earlier and the DP will simply be fulfilling his pledge to attend the fund raiser.
The battle for Western Kenya shapes up
Western Kenya is proving to be a key battle ground for all eyeing the presidency in 2022 with several leaders attempting to woo the voters.
Politicians from the region have however failed to rally voters under one umbrella, making it a key battle ground.
Ford Kenya, Amani National Congress and Orange Democratic movement command significant following in the region, something which aspirants in the 2022 elections are keen to change in their favour.
