MPs reveal why Speaker staged daring raid

The lawmakers alleged that this is part of a wider plot by the speaker to gain public sympathy and create chaos to deter them from discharging their mandate.
Led by acting Speaker Evans Marieba and the Leader of Majority Walter Muok, the MCAs placed the blame squarely on the county Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo alleging that the whole raid was stage managed.
“Ayoo is behind the alleged destruction of property in her office and she should not blame anybody for tribulations.” Marieba said.
Ayoo was recently ousted from office after being impeached in a struggle that saw legislators defy orders from ODM.
The leaders alleged that the group of MCAs that impeached Ayoo had moved on to matters of development and had no reason to raid her office.
Ayoo had claimed that the raid and subsequent vandalism was carried out by her‘enemies’ within the county assembly.
MCAs arrested for alleged assault
The speaker who was impeached on 01 November with chaotic scenes witnessed at the assembly returned to an empty office and was forced to buy new furniture to use for the day.
The wrangles in Homa Bay county have seen two ward representatives arrested on assault charges after Ayoo filed a suit in court and recorded a statement with the police.
Her previous attempts to access the office had been met with resistance and fistfights between two rival camps who support her and those opposed to her leadership.
