Chaos Erupt ahead of NASA Event [Photos & Videos]

Tension as gunshots, teargas fill the air in Donholm area

Police on Tuesday morning engaged in a fierce exchange with NASA supporters at Jacaranda Grounds where the latter was scheduled to have a memorial service, an event that would coincide with the inauguration of President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta.

The officers sealed off the area to block the Opposition followers who were determined to access the grounds.

A chaotic scene erupted in the area with police officers lobbing teargas against the NASA crowd to disperse them.

Gunshots were also heard as police forcefully tried to scare away the Opposition followers.

Residentials around the Jacaranda Grounds were also affected by the tear gas thrown at the location with many opting to stay indoors.

“There is tear gas all over my house. My kids are crying and my neighbors are facing the same," a resident was quoted by a local daily.

Videos shared to Pulselive.co.ke, show the irate youth burning property by the roadsides.

At the same time, ODM Communication Director Phillip Etale accused Jubilee led crowds of dumping human feces at the ground to block the memorial service from going on.

"Even if they pour human poop or garbage, Kenyans will be at Jacaranda today. They will smell human waste but the memorial will go on," Etale tweeted.

"Mike Sonko dumping foul-smelling waste at Jacaranda, for the stench to scare away mourners attending #NASAMemorial," Lawyer Nelson Havi said.
