Why Today is a Big Day for NASA

Full details

Today is a big day for the National Super Alliance (NASA) following a ruling on a petition challenging the election of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o.

Justice David Majanja is expected to rule on the case filed by former Governor Jack Ranguma who wants Nyong'o's election nullified noting that the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) poorly conducted, administered and managed the election.

Mr. Ranguma also claims that the former Senator conspired with the Electoral body to rig him out.

The ruling is critical as it will determine whether NASA should start preparing for a by-election in Kisumu, which is its major stronghold.

Kisumu is among 18 counties where the Opposition clinched the Governor's seat during the August 8 General Election.

Moving to a by-election could deter NASA’s activities for Electoral Justice which its leader Raila Odinga divulged will start in full force this week.

The fact that Siaya Senator James Orengo is also the lead lawyer in Mr. Nyong’o case shows the determination NASA has to settle the concerns raised by Ranguma.

In November, Mr. Orengo told the court that the election of the Governor was conducted according to the constitution.

The Siaya Senator was also the senior counsel in the presidential petition, where the win of President Uhuru Kenyatta was nullified after the August 8 General Election.
