Why police are after ODM’s Junet Mohamed
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation is in hot pursuit of the Minority Chief Whip.
According to the Police, the MP who is also the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament is set to be arrested for skipping court summonses.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has asked for more time as they look for the MP over a case that he was charged in July.
Homa Bay criminal investigation officer Patrick Kibowen told senior Principal Magistrate Susan Ndegwa for more time to apprehend the MP.
“We ask for more time to enable us arrest Mr Junet,” said Mr Kibowen.
Mohamed was in July charged with ethnic contempt for remarks he made during an ODM youth meeting in Homa Bay Town.
Junet is alleged to have uttered words that are said to have contravened the National Cohesion and Integrity Act.
He accused of ordering governor Joho to prepare grounds in Mombasa where the opposition coalition will conduct swearing in of Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga in a move which will see Mr Odinga becomes president of certain parts of the country except Central region.
Prosecutors interpreted the words to mean that Mr Mohamed was saying that if Mr Odinga wins the August 8 General Election, he would become president of certain parts of the country except central Kenya.
He denied the charges and was released on bail but ordered to appear in court on October 24 and which prosecutors claimed he failed to show up.
The case will be mentioned on January 11 next year.
