Man caught on video slapping female ‘IEBC Observer’ arrested

Police finally takes action

Martha Miano, who was allegedly posing as an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) observer, was assaulted at a police station

The assailant is believed to be a supporter of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, who was at the police station demanding to know why IEBC had allowed Miano to observe the election without a badge.

Confirming the arrest to a local daily, Mathira West OCPD Birgen Kiptoo said the man was booked at Kiamariga Police Station.

On Wednesday, Kenyans expressed their displeasure with the man’s conduct after the video was shared widely on social media.

Here is the video:

UPDATE:

The man was freed on a 10,000 cash bail and scheduled to appear before the court next week.
