Business came to a standstill at the Nyeri County Assembly on Thursday as members held an emergency meeting to discuss a rampant fraud scheme affecting them.

Ward representatives noted that every week two or three of their colleagues are duped into sending money to the con-men.

They added that residents of the county have not been spared either as they are conned into giving money to the fraudsters in order to get jobs.

"A big number of MCAs and residents have fallen culprit of these con-men and women and have been deceived to send money via mobile phone transactions as a requirement to get employment," Kabaru MCA Joseph Njiri told the House.

DCI called in to Probe

Aguthi Gaaki MCA Stanley Wakibia further added that police have been receiving reports but are yet to make any arrests.

"It is astonishing that more millions of shillings are being minted from unsuspecting members of the public.

"These goons use numbers of deceased individuals and I believe we need a solution," he stated.

Deputy Speaker Samuel Kariuki directed the clerk to write to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti to initiate a probe into the complaints.
