President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Thursday given the Grand Master of the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis while on his visit to Namibia.

The honour that has been described as the highest honour in the Southern Africa nation was bestowed on him by Namibian President Hage Geingob.

The award was handed to President Kenyatta in recognition of his contribution to democracy and good governance.

Controversy around Uhuru's trip

The trip by the Kenyan Head of State became an object of scorn as Kenyans grappled to understand why the government has denied any deaths caused by hunger.

Kenyans took to his Twitter to express their disapproval of the trip saying that the President's priorities are misplaced.

"Please Mr Kenyatta, come back home. Help in feeding these Turkana people. They are taxpayers and voters too. May God bless you," one of the president's followers tweeted.
