How Kibaki influenced Uhuru-Raila talks

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi and his group of lawyers at the Fort Hall School of Government have theorized that President Uhuru Kenyatta was following in the footsteps of former President Mwai Kibaki in staging a meeting with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.

According to the analyst, President Kenyatta borrowed Mr Kibaki’s wisdom in convening the meeting at Harambee House with Odinga. The meeting saw the two arch rivals come together to unite the Nation.

Prof Ngunyi opined that Mr Kenyatta’s decision was influenced by Kibaki whose era saw the country experience significant development because of his coming together with the former Prime Minister.

“Let us begin with some acts, the meeting between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga evoked the same sense of relief as Peace accord of 2008. After this accord, the country experienced the highest ever, we built roads we got loans from banks and the Kenyan dream exploded.

“And we must note, the Kibaki-Raila years recorded the best innovations in Government ever. And this was because of the intellectual presence of the Luo Nation, this is a fact of history.

“With the Luo genius in Government, the country changed. Kibaki discovered that it is better to have your enemies inside peeing out than to have them outside peeing in. And Uhuru Kenyatta has borrowed from the wisdom of the wazees,” the analyst stated.

Mr Kibaki entered a peace deal with Odinga after the 2007 General Election to end the post-election violence which was the poll's aftermath.

In the peace deal, Mr Odinga became the Prime Minister.

At the same time, Ngunyi questioned the talks divulging that it could be betrayal ploy.

"Raila has gone to Uhuru because he is looking for a new person to use. The question we need to ask is: who is cheating who in this constellation?" he posed.

Mr Ngunyi and his group of lawyers at the Fort Hall School of Government further added that the Uhuru-Raila deal could also be a scheme by the Opposition leader to push his daughter Winnie to the presidential race.

"Raila is only interested in two things. One he is afraid of Ruto becoming president. Two, the Odinga family has invested a total of 100 years on their political heritage.

"And Raila made peace with Uhuru because of Winnie Odinga. She will become president after Ruto and that is why Winnie is the only important person Raila took to Harambee house on Friday," the analyst said

The political scientist also warned Mr Kenyatta that adopting Odinga to his Government could be a detrimental move. He theorised that the former Prime Minister might use the opportunity to destroy his Jubilee Party.
